It’s time to get back to basics.

We were meant to be hunters and gathers and to cook food that was available to us locally.  Our digestive system for thousands of years was based around a diet that was simple and made of a few staples that we could get depending on season and environment our ancestors came from.  The diets we consume today are a far cry from that. In the last 50 years we have industrialized food.  

We have added preservatives and additives to enhance our foods taste or shelf life. We have striped our food of basic nutrition and replaced it with man made chemicals. These toxins build up in our system and confuse our digestive system.  By simplifying your diet you can ease your body into a simpler and easier digestive state allowing your body the opportunity to properly digest and process the nutrients ours bodies are meant to receive and use.

 Even the act of cooking helps our bodies’ digestive system. While preparing  food you are smelling, seeing, tasting and salivating. This sends signals to the brain thatyou are about to eat and tells the stomach to make the digestive juices need to break down the food you are about to eat.

That  is because you have been in the kitchen teasing your digestive system. It takes twenty min for your food to register to your brain that you are full. If you have been in the kitchen for twenty min making a very aromatic dish you it probably won’t take much to fill you. It’s the same when we try to get our children to try new things. If you cook with your child they have an opportunity the experience the food as it is being cooked, It gets them salivating which prepares there body and mind for eating, hence a better chance of acceptance to the food being served

Convenience food has taken out that process and turned us into poor digestion overeaters.  Your diet doesn’t have to be mundane and boring or limiting but you do have to get back in the kitchen and bring the whole family along. Our daily bread should be a time to gather, share and create something together that can be enjoyed by all.
